Some quick thoughts on random LeBron stuff that I don't want to actually write a post on...
I don't care *why* LeBron chose the Lakers, who gets credit or doesn't, or anything else related to it. He chose the Lakers and everyone is just going to have to deal. If you want to psychoanalyze it that's on you, but it doesn't matter. I feel the same way about Paul George.
The Lakers can tell you why they signed the FA's they did and reasonable minds can disagree about whether those reasons make sense, were smart or dumb, will work or won't work. But don't mistake *those* signings as a long term plan. They're not.
Every FA the Lakers signed was for 1-year. Magic Johnson has said he's still targeting 2019 as an important summer. There are A LOT of very good FA's in that class and the Lakers will be able to easily manufacture max cap space to chase one of them.
In other words, this upcoming season is not about the future. The team the Lakers want to build long term is still about LeBron and still about the young players and will also be about adding 1 more top level talent to that core.
Could this change via trades? Yes. But from where I sit, I fully believe if the Lakers only cared about getting another star, they'd have already traded as many of these young guys as it took to get a top guy. If not Kawhi, then someone else. They have resisted this.
Again, we can argue the merits of whether any/all of this is smart. How competitive can they be w/ this roster? Were these the right 1-year signings? Etc, Etc. But to imply they don't have a long term plan around LeBron would be disingenuous in my opinion.
