Just to be very clear, I want to live in the open-source hackable networked sex toys queer cyberpunk world, and not the late-stage capitalism, private espionage, corporate controlled cyberpunk dystopia.

I realize these are probably gonna be the same place.
I mean...to be completely clear: I'm an ex intelligence worker, a former freelance hacker known for hacking sex toys to communicate over anonymity networks and now run a research collective working on privacy tech...If I'm gonna end up anywhere it's a cyberpunk dystopia.
Oh also the whole dark web scanning thing.
If we have to live in the cyberpunk dystopia it's going to at least have metadata resistant sex toys.
Now that Cwtch is a prototype I can now actually build what I wanted to build when I started doing all the #oniondildonics stuff - proper anonymous group teledildonics.
If people can't have weird sex with your technology then literally what is the point?

Regular reminder: The telecom network is a giant tracking system and the number of people who can gain access to subscriber data is practically unlimited.

Source: this used to literally be my job.
I've been reminded of a few concepts recently and it's becoming very clear that I've forgotten more about the inner workings & implementation details of telecom protocol stacks than most people will ever know.
The vast majority of reporting on privacy issues in telecom systems painfully mischaracterize the technology & conflate different issues, despite that they generally understate the privacy problems.

The world makes little sense anymore because we live within systems that have become detached from the systems they exist in which themselves have become detached from the systems they exist in...somewhere in that stack of systems is the physical world we want to understand.
To further complicate, many of those systems have provided tangible material benefit to many (often at the expense of others). The systems are no less real than the physical world because they operate over the physical world.
Our current economic & political ridiculousness is, in part, a failure of neoliberalism, itself a detachment from classical "money" economics, which is itself a detachment from the resource-limited world we live in. All a gross simplification of history, circumstance and power.

There is something to be said about the idea that technology has evolved in such a way that corporate & government surveillance is easy, but personal quantification is difficult.
I would love to be able to pull down and analyze so much data about my digital (and in many cases physical) life and interactions but so much of it is locked inside various layers and arbitrarily restrictive formats.
Even something as trivial as "what did I read this week" becomes almost impossible to answer when factoring in web pages, books, academic pdfs, emails, word documents etc.

I would love to see this kind of attention paid to any radical leftist organization. Unfortunately the beliefs of those groups are antithetical to corporate interests while fascism is just the logical endpoint of them.
Interest in fascist or white nationalist groups are always justified as something we have to understand to correct Americas deep divisions. However, all of the coverage is always more voyeuristic than it is exploratory or revealing
It never gets at why fascism actually spreads, just lets white nationalists explain their own rationale which is exactly what you dont want.
