#Islam has established a universal #Brotherhood.

It is stressed that true #Brotherhood can be established only by virtue of our relationship with one another through God. Other factors — common interests, common pursuits, common occupations...
...may help to foster #friendship and #Brotherhood to a degree, but the very same factors may also engender jealousy and hostility.

It is only the consciousness that mankind are all equally creatures and servants of God and that they must all constantly seek the pleasure of God.
...that can bring about the realization of true brotherhood, which can stand the test of all the contingencies to which life is subject.

Allah says:
“Hold fast, all together, by the rope of #Allah, and be not divided; & remember the favour of Allah, which He bestowed upon you...

This was 2 months after high school graduation. My classmate was missing for 7 months. The devastation & grief were immense after the unexpected loss. We were naïve teenagers facing overwhelming sadness. Eventually her death was ruled a #suicide. #ph260720
In 2016, while living with my best friend, I briefly had a #suicidal roommate. The aftermath of my classmate’s death inspired me to study suicide, but I was not prepared to be the caretaker to a loved one in her time of crisis. #ph260720
About me: I choose #suicidology because I have seen the effects of suicide on families & communities. I am a sociological suicidologist turned #publichealth researcher. Learning from #livedexperiences and using #qualitativemethods in #suicideresearch is important to me. #ph260720

Friendship - oiling the friendship

Some friends are for a season while others are for a lifetime. You must be able to separate both and then service the long-term friendships. Communication is key for strengthening your friendships..
a friend you have not spoken to in 10 years is most likely not your friend anymore as your outlooks are now different.

So make a deliberate decision to reach out to your friends and be involved in their lives. The older you get, the more precious those friends become, so oil it
A man [who has] friends must himself be friendly, But there is a friend [who] sticks closer than a brother.

Many entreat the favor of the nobility, And every man [is] a friend to one who gives gifts.

Friendship - Bear each other's burden

Friendship is more than just a name, it is a responsibility. You are supposed to be there for your friends, to offer a shoulder to cry and a companion for laughter. Their joy is your joy and their burden your prayer point.
David and Jonathan are a very good example of friendship, even at his own expense, Jonathan was happy for David to be the next king. Do you rejoice at your friend's successes or you become jealous? Be a burden-bearer
Share each other's burdens, and in this way obey the law of Christ. If you think you are too important to help someone, you are only fooling yourself. You are not that important.

There are "friends" who destroy each other, but a real friend sticks closer than a brother.

Friendship - Truthfulness

"You are not properly dressed", if your friends are unable to say that to you, then you are not being truthful with each other. Friendship requires truthfulness and a certain vulnerability to the end of improvement.
While you are not always looking for each other's faults, you must be comfortable enough to point out your deficiencies, it is better it comes from them anyway than public embarrassment. Make truth the foundation of your friendship.
Friend deceives friend, and no one speaks the truth. They have taught their tongues to lie; they weary themselves with sinning.

One who has unreliable friends soon comes to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.

Friendship - Growth

What is the content of your discussion with your friends, what do you spend most of your time talking about? If you are not growing because of your friends then you are depreciating, there is no middle ground.
A simple rule: avoid talking about people and past events rather talk more about ideas, inventions, innovations and spiritual growth. Added benefit is it helps sieve your friends😉
As iron sharpens iron, so a friend sharpens a friend.

Walk with the wise and become wise; associate with fools and get in trouble.

One who loves a pure heart and who speaks with grace will have the king for a friend.

Friendship - Choose your friends

Friendship is not by happenstance, it must be deliberate. You can be in a person's company by chance or circumstance but that should not automatically translate into friendship.
Choose your friends based on shared values, beliefs and purpose. Because your actions and worldview will be affected by your friendship, you must then be selective of those you call friends.
Do not be misled: "Bad company corrupts good character.

Can two people walk together without agreeing on the direction?

The righteous choose their friends carefully, but the way of the wicked leads them astray.

Friendship - Friendliness

Now while you are not required to be a friend to all, you do need to be friendly with all. You owe everyone you meet the debt of love which is paid by being kind and good to all.
Of course in the process of being friendly you will make some friends but don't be discouraged if you don't, that was not the goal in the first place. Be peaceable and kindhearted.
Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for whoever loves others has fulfilled the law.

Make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord.

Friendship - They can't all be your friends

It is amazing how some people feel everyone around them should be their friends; well news flash, it is actually not logically possible. Everyone cannot and will not be your friend and that is okay.
Learn to be comfortable in being a classmate, colleague, acquaintance etc and nothing more. And it doesn't mean that you are not walking in love or fighting them. Your friends reflect you, so be deliberate.
But Jesus did not commit Himself to them, because He knew all [men,] and had no need that anyone should testify of man, for He knew what was in man.

Do not make friends with a hot-tempered person, do not associate with one easily angered,

Feel free to join me and Izzy for a #VirtualDogWalk up on the fells.
It’s breezy, so if blustering is too much, you may prefer sound off.
This is the fell I see from my kitchen window. I’m enjoying taking in the view, but someone else is ready for the off!
What I love about being up here in the winter, is that we hardly see anyone, just the odd dog walker, fell runner or sheep.

Thanks to @kimbiddulph it’s #Archaeology31 time again! - Starting with prompt number one: #new.

Which in this case is: New year, new journal. Empty pages waiting to be filled with thoughts, notes, sketches ... opportunities. Image
#Archaeology31 day 2, #future, offers a great chance to highlight a topic I found particularly interesting as of late:

How will an #ArchaeologyOfTheFuture look like - What do *we* leave behind for future colleagues?

(Weekend reading recommendations included. 😉) Image
Starting with the question what actually constitutes #CulturalHeritage, #sites, and #monuments of our age ...

A quickfire thread based on a book I read recently titled " 80/20 YOUR LIFE " .

Disclaimer : This is MY interpretation & the ratio (80/20) is variable..
The essence here is to identify what matters & weed out the inconsequential & thereby manage time accordingly.
The #Pareto principle - 80/20 Rule is pretty well known & discussed in context of work & business productivity.
But it can also be applied practically in our day to day life in all possible aspects to ensure smooth sailing.
How do we do that? 🤔
Pretty simple actually !
Our Top priority goal must be a S.M.A.R.T goal aka :

Time based goal .

Everything is #time based as time saved can be used constructively for other purposes or even wasted happily ! :))

By far the best book I have read in a long long time.
One can simply begin from any page, for each note makes so much sense that we get lost in them , sometimes chuckling & often amazed .

Here are MY learnings from
" A Book of Simple Living" by Ruskin Bond.
The book is enriched with life lessons . Most profound of all for me being ,

#Life is simple despite all its hardships and complexities .
For the purpose of life is to live ....

Now, how we choose to live our life makes it simple or complicated.

Do we chase #happiness by climbing infinite mountains in the quest for fame & wealth or do we savour the goodness in the little things that often come our way but go unnoticed and unappreciated by us ?
For ultimately , " It is the little things that matter the most ".

What is #friendship?
Mathematician #Ramanujam didn’t have any close friends and someone asked him the reason. He replied that although he wanted to have close friends but nobody was up to his expectations. When pressed how he expected his friend to be, he replied, “like numbers
220 and 284!" The person got confused and asked what is the connection between friendship and these numbers! Ramanujam asked him to find the divisors of each number! With much difficulty, the person derived and listed them as,
220 → 1, 2, 4, 5, 10, 11, 20, 22, 44, 55, 110, 220
284 →1, 2, 4, 71, 142, 284
Ramanujam then asked the person to exclude the numbers 220 and 284 and asked the sum of the remaining divisors. The person was astonished to find,
220 → 1+2+4+5+10+11+20+22+44+55+110=284
284 →1+2+4+71+142=220
Ramanujam explained that an ideal

"We will fight with what we have," can be costly in lives, when 2 land-obsessed, nuclear armed aggressors are colluding against us (for 50 yrs)! And it's difficult to indigenize when a stronger power is knocking down 1s door. We need both higher defence budget & an ally for 20yrs
2/xi The old story of the boy who cried #wolf will have to be inverted. In new story guards("experts") kept seeing wolf in distance, but didn't warn villagers, thinking its too far to worry. Villagers kept farming peacefully, till the wolf suddenly came & attacked children grp
3/Xi And we no longer have the luxury of time for gradual econ rfrm. We need #BigBang reform in FY21 to liberate a million entrepreneurs & attract Global #ValueChains to accelerate "catch-up growth". This will also generate revenues for Defence & encourage our partners'(economy)
