A note on social activism. It can work. I was privileged to be involved with a campaign to change Irish laws regarding abortion recently. While some politicians were involved (mostly near the end) the movement to change our constitution was entirely grassroots led.
And it worked. An overwhelming majority of Irish people voted to legalise abortion in May of this year. People mobilised to change our laws. We trained ourselves, organised groups, marched, went on strike and made people listen. It was democracy in action.
So if you weren’t already aware by the fact that I was strutting about Helsinki yesterday, dressed as Rosie the Riveter and holding a placard referencing the Handmaid’s Tale, I am a card carrying trans-inclusionary, intersectional feminist.
