(1/3) Want to know why housing development is concentrated in The Mission?

Here's a map of all the plots of land on which you're legally allowed to add more than 5 homes (what zoning laws allow vs current usage):
(2/3) It's not because developers WANT to colonize low-income neighborhoods.

It's because the SF gov made The Mission one of the few places you can build housing! To pander to rich NIMBY homeowners, the city makes building apartments illegal in 75% of the city (the red parts):
(3/3) A lot of the green parts above are already developed, but The Mission isn't. So developers are forced to build in The Mission.

If we prevented them from building, that would only focus gentrification onto Oakland. Instead, we MUST legalize apartments everywhere in SF!
CORRECTION: 1st map is a bit inaccurate. Due to a bug, I ignored plots of land which currently aren't being used for housing. Adding them is not entirely fair either, since many of these are office buildings which will never be converted to housing. Here's an updated map tho:
As you can see, all potential development is still concentrated in SOMA / Mission / Tenderloin. These are all poorer neighborhoods which are experiencing massive gentrification. My main point still stands - the SF gov is deliberately causing gentrification with its zoning policy.
