Today I joined doctors and advocates at @PresenceHealth to discuss the skyrocketing costs of prescription drugs and what Congress can do to curb price hikes and bring much-needed transparency to price setting
As Americans continue to be squeezed at the pharmacy counter, the President and congressional Republicans gave Big Pharma companies a $40 billion tax break last year.
Instead of tweeting, there are several initiatives the President should support to reduce prescription drug costs for families, including requiring companies to list the price of drugs in television ads and allowing Medicare to negotiate drug prices. durbin.senate.gov/newsroom/press…

Let me be clear: Dems support strong, effective border security. The type of border security that Dems have long-supported, including increased funds for tech, is what experts have said is needed & actually works. What doesn’t work is an ineffective, expensive & medieval wall.
But here’s what we should all agree on: large portions of the government shouldn’t be shut down while there’s a debate on border security.
Today, we urged the President and Republican leaders to pass the 6 other appropriations bills, which would reopen most of the government, along with a short-term bill to keep DHS funded and working while we continue to debate the path forward on border security.

Democrats have made it clear to the President that there are much more effective ways to secure our border than a wall – like more screening technology and personnel to stop drugs from flowing through our borders. Democrats support smart border security that works.
For example, the DEA has found that the cartels transport the bulk of their illicit goods over the Southwest border through legal ports of entry using passenger vehicles or tractor trailers.
CBP Commissioner McAleenan told me directly in October 2017 that his top priority to secure the border was more drive-through inspection systems, known as Z-portals. He didn’t mention a border wall.

1. Trump is currently forcing "junk plans" that *do not* cover protections for pre-existing conditions while at the same time pressuring the court to destroy those protections
2. Trump and @GOP have proposed cutting over $2 trillion from Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security to pay for the #GOPTaxScam designed for the rich.
3. Since taking control of the House, @GOP has voted over 65 times to destroy the Affordable Care Act. If they retain control, you can bet they will move to repeal our health care. #ProtectOurCare

Today is the Jayanti of P.V.Narasimha Rao, the man who liberalized the Indian economy, and opened it up. And more than anything else, provided the much needed stability for India in the turbulent 90s. One of the best PMs IMO.
The man who dismantled India's Licence Raj, opened up relations with Israel, adopted a Look East Policy. P.V.Narasimha Rao took over as PM, when India was faced with multiple challenges both on political and economic front in 1991.
Assasination of Rajiv Gandhi, Economic crisis, India was facing a bleak scenario, in 1991 when PVNR became the PM. It is to PVNR's credit that when he stepped down as PM in 1996,more people in India were optimistic about their future, more confident.
