literally the day after the nearly-year-long process of disbursing the A12 victims fund wrapped up, @DemSocialists says they're gonna start trying to figure out how to help.

i'd say they were a day late and a dollar short, but they actually signed over the nearly $206,000 to the NCF 283 days ago.
this apology & plan to work with the NCF would've been fantastic had it come 9 months ago.
and to those members of this organization who have called our demands for accountability on this matter "sectarian," those who have called us "extremists" and "wreckers" for raising our voices on behalf of our injured comrades, i see you. your lack of solidarity has been noted.

daniel borden will be sentenced tomorrow after pleading guilty in may 2018 for his role in the brutal beating of deandre harris on august 12, 2017.
he entered an alford plea for felony malicious wounding - briefly, this means he maintains innocence while admitting he knows the state has sufficient evidence to convict him (because he's, you know, on video committing the crime)

two other men have already been tried, convicted, and sentenced for their participation in this beating. alex ramos & jacob goodwin were convicted in 2018 and will serve 6 & 10 years, respectively.
tyler davis goes to trial next month.

40% of the human species lives within 40 miles of a coast, which means that, conservatively, 10% of the species will be refugees within two decades. Assuming population growth sustains, that's nearly a billion refugees.
That's not counting people who have the opposite problem and live in arid lands. In the US alone that's about, I'd guess, 75 million people displaced. Probably another half billion worldwide.

I was trying to figure out last night how Trump Org will play into Trump's narcissistic response to legal investigation. Other super corrupt Presidents didn't have a corporate identity separate from their role as President. Trump does.
And it's clear that Trump Org will increasingly be at collateral risk bc of the legal attention to Trump's cheating to win the presidency. There's the campaign finance investigation and this thing, plus Trump Org will get charged in any conspiracy.
Oh, and there's Trump Foundation, which Trump hasn't severed from (though that may be the open investigation referred to in the sentencing memo).

I like this article because it relates to our discussion of the body in media and how it is never just a body. We're good at recognizing negative representation of Othered bodies, but not so much positive reinforcement of idealized bodies.
The body is ALWAYS more than a body. When the villain is fat, this is a sign to the audience. But the hero or heroine is also a body that reinforces norms
An example: In the animated Disney Cinderella, when the stepsisters can't fit in the slipper, their bodies are signs to the audience. But when Cinderella does fit the slipper, her body is also a sign to the audience

Thanks, @mariabustillos. The photo is to illustrate something I talk about in the introduction. It's EveryFace, from Everywhere. It's my accent, not my face, that tells people I'm foreign. Otherwise, no one guesses that I'm not from these parts, wherever they are.
And this is true across a surprisingly wide geographic range. My face blurrs into the background pretty much everywhere except sub-Saharan Africa and Asia.
Otherwise, it's only when I start talking that people say, "Where are you from?" So if I were to lose my accent,
I'd be in very bizarre emotional territory, because there's a payoff to being an outsider. My accent is my all-purpose excuse, Special pleading for being weird. If I have an accent and do something strange If I didn't have that accent, I'd be expected to conform---

Gonna do some reading and research into the history of Singapore(an) Indians, aka "my people". Mainstream oral/colloquial knowledge of this history is sparse, and I suspect that it's by design, because of a bunch of uncomfortable details. Let's see what we find out.
Singapore began receiving Indian convicts from British India from 1825–1873. These convlcts literally built 1800s SG – roads, bridges and monumental buildings that still exist today. They were housed in a prison where SMU now stands – of which there is no trace, no memorial
Trying to figure out what was going on re: caste is very difficult – it seems to me that many migrants to Singapore (including untouchable convicts who were shipped over) deliberately chose to leave those details blank. John Solomon describes it as "conscious acts of forgetting"

One thing I point out in the #LowerEd epilogue is that there is a political context to shifting legitimacy to corporate highered. The GOP isn't shy about it. It's their official policy platform. Of Liberty, Alec shows this nicely
It is the context that colleagues like @Lollardfish @ldburnett @reclaimUC have tirelessly researched, written about and archived: the culture wars never ended. They merely transformed and became more deeply ingrained in "legitimate" political discourse
