Harding is in more than a few ways - both good & bad - the best parallel to Trump among past presidents.
In 1920, Warren Harding won the popular vote by the widest margin in U.S. history, despite losing SC by 92 points (!), MS by 70, GA by 44, LA by 39, TX by 36, FL by 31, AL by 25, VA by 23 & AR by 20.
Republicans in 1922, the one midterm during Harding's presidency, lost 77 House seats & 7 Senate seats but held both chambers. Really just a snapback from being overextended by the 1920 landslide.
House Republicans went from a 134-291 minority in 1912 to a 303-131 majority in 1920 to a 88-334 minority in 1936.

But a healthy movement does not demand that all its voices sing the same lines from the same hymnals.
People forget this now, but even in the Bush years, TWS' identification with John McCain made it an uneasy ally at times of Team W. In August 2001, it called on Don Rumsfeld to resign in protest over the defense budget being too small.

1. The latest hit job on @EWErickson is best understood as an effort to get mainstream outlets to blackball him. That raises an important point about civility, reasoned discourse, & how the enemies of the latter use the former as a cudgel.
@EWErickson 2. Civility is important; it's a virtue, though not an overriding one. But there are problems with policing civility. One, it's a word with varied meanings, so it's easy to accuse ideological enemies of offenses against civility.
@EWErickson 3. Two, people who regularly write and speak provocatively about ideas & events can easily be cherry-picked at their roughest moments - convicted of flourishes as if that's their daily output.

1. George H.W. Bush's strongest suit as president was the deep experience, judgment, knowledge, contacts, and yes, prudence, that he brought to the role of Commander in Chief. Poster boy for the value of experience.
2. HW's weakest point as president was his lack of vision, philosophy, or constancy in domestic policy, as well as lacking the gift for communications to cover for that. Of course, he had less party support in Congress than all but a few presidents.
3. HW also came after 8 years of Reagan picking the low hanging policy fruit, so it was harder for him to build an obvious domestic agenda.

Cryptocurrency is effecting a turning of the tide from Gresham's Law to Thiers' Law.
2/ Gresham’s Law states that "bad money drives out good.” It applies when both forms of money are considered legal tender and have their exchange rate set by law.
3/ People will hoard the “good” money (which becomes the store of value) and transact with the “bad” money (which becomes the medium of exchange). Merchants are forced to accept this “bad” money because of the legal tender laws.
