1. @ChattanoogaSocc has announced that they are bringing a @USL_D3 franchise to Chattanooga. The problem with this is that Chattanooga already has an established club, @ChattanoogaFC.
2. @ChattanoogaFC just completed its tenth season, with a history of success in a top amateur league, the @NPSL. As with any relationship, we’ve had good times and bad. @ussoccer has thrown hurdles at NPSL’s attempts to form a pro division, which keeps CFC amateur.
3. I’m not going to bore you with an argument about why bringing in a professional team to capitalize on the goodwill built by a successful amateur team is bad. I’ll let others, including @ProRelForUSA do that.
4. Relatively speaking, I’m an upstart @chattahooligan. I’ve been attending CFC matches for about four years, but I only entered Section 109 two years ago. The Chattahooligans won over my daughter, Zari, who dragged me along.
5. On their march to 109 during a match, a Chattahooligan passed Zari a scarf. That was just the first of many examples of Chattahooligan generosity. In that same match @thatgalen dragged her onto the capo stand.
6.Later that season, a visiting @NGSDetroit fan gave Zari his scarf, starting our relationship with the best frenemies anyone could ask for. Somewhere around this time, I first picked up a Chattahooligan flag.
7. Now, I’m a cynic. Prior to joining the Chattahooligans, I had removed myself from every group to which I had belonged. What I had experienced in groups was toxic, and I wanted no part of that.
8. The Chattahooligans were completely different. Opposing fans are welcomed with open arms to the tailgates. Before almost every match, we chant #ComeandJoinUs. The Chattahooligans welcome all, the most inclusive group I have experienced.
9. As part of this, the Chattahooligans aggressively support local charities, such as @NoogaDiversity, @HESChatt, @CHAAutism, and @OGAChattanooga. On a national level, they started @Prideraiser, which raised over $50K this June.
10. Eventually, partly because I always stuck around to help and partly because I was strong enough to wave our largest flag, the @chattahooligan put me in charge of all our flags. I make sure everyone knows we’re there.
11. As importantly, the @ChattanoogaFC front office listens to us and works with us. When this news surfaced last Friday, I messaged a board member and received a rapid reply. (Our attempts to reach the other side have been met with silence.)
12. In the past two years, Zari and I have made some amazing friends. Because of these friends, Zari was introduced to a program, @cisvusa, that sent her to Norway for a month this summer. They supported her last summer at Chattanooga Girls Rock.
13.These are friends who I can rely upon to have my back. And it goes beyond that. When @ChattanoogaFC played at @DetroitCityFC, one of their capos, @girlwithafacee, gave several of us crash space and showed us around her city.
14. We’ve had great road trips all around the Southeast as well, making friends with @TheUprisingRevs, @SouthSlopeBlues, @milltowngvl, and others, a common love of the game binding us more than having separate teams divides us.
15. So now, we have an outsider from Utah funding some former Chattanooga FC board members in their attempt to bring a professional team to Chattanooga. More than an attack on my team, this is an attack on my friends.
16. If @ChattanoogaFC loses this fight, I have friends who will lose their jobs. I have many more friends who have invested years building the Chattahooligans into a powerful force for good in our community.
17. I don’t want to lose that. I’m willing to fight hard to keep from losing that. We would appreciate your help. #StandWithChatta #StandUpForTheCFC #supportyourlocalclub #ComeandJoinUs
