Once you get past all of the yelling and carrying on, there are some really interesting discussions going on in our mentions about Alex Jones and, if we’re being honest, we’re all saying the same thing. Kinda.

Allow us to explain (in a disgustingly long-winded tweet storm):
Ultimately, what happened yesterday was dumb. All of these platforms (@facebook, @Spotify) decided to simply follow the leader (@apple) to make the call they should have made years ago according to their Terms Of Service. That’s why it looks, to Jones fans, like “collusion”.
@Facebook, just a week ago, said that threatening to kill Robert Mueller was not a violation of their Terms. Then they did and gave him a time out. Then they banned him. No wonder Infowars fans think it’s fishy. In reality, they should have banned him immediately after the video.
@spotify did the same thing. They took a half measure, deleting a few select podcasts, without a real plan of what would happen if he did it again, instead of banning him outright right away, according to their rules.
@YouTube was even worse, giving Jones convoluted “strikes”, allowing them to expire before issuing new ones, when they bundled up a bunch of videos into a single “strike” one week, then banned him the next for violations to their TOS. What is that??
What is clear, both to people like us who had been asking these platforms why he wasn’t violating their Terms for almost a year and to people that buy his Doomsday kits because they’ll do anything he says, is that nothing is really clear at all.
Platforms are dealing with unprecedented abuse like they’ve never seen before and Jones was one of the biggest offenders, but they’re building the track while they’re driving the train (high on cocaine). They literally don’t have a plan.
What we’re all looking for is clarity from these platforms. We need a set of rules and principles, like society itself, that governs them. We need to know what’s wrong and what’s right, taking politics, fear of government intervention and stock prices out of their decisions.
And we need to know what the consequences are. How many strikes do we get? What constitutes a ban? How do we get back in good standing? And they all need to be PUBLIC. They need to make these decisions now.
This will enable all of the cries of bias and political meddling and collusion and free speech violations and stupid Congressional hearings about “shadow bans” to go away. It certainly won’t be easy to write these rules, but once in place, they could save all of us some heartache
Don’t get us wrong. We’re happy as hell that Alex Jones won’t be harassing Sandy Hook parents on these social networks anymore, but the fact that all of them made the arbitrary decision on the same day gave him all of the ammo he needed to make this seem like a conspiracy.
And he doesn’t need any help with that.

Thanks for reading. Bourbon time.
