Try this today: Compliment your colleagues
- Notice what they do well
- Let patients know how lucky they are to see them
- Mention a time when they inspired you
- Appreciate their skill
- Celebrate their wonderfulness

After so much training and work, and daily labor to heal the sick, we tend to take each other for granted—nit pick and critique when we should be grateful for their remarkable talents and boundless efforts.

Our patients often don’t know how hard we work, together, trying to solve their problems and make them feel better. Probably because we don’t mention it. It’s okay to notice and appreciate the lovely people we work with every day.

A kind word can really help a colleague through a bad day or low point:
I appreciate you
You do great work
You really helped me
Your patients really love you

We are hard on ourselves and sometimes unforgiving toward one another. We don’t hear much praise and and a result get stingy giving it.

Let’s stop. Speak the words you’d like to hear. “You really are a great doctor,”

Sometimes this career and the forces that work against us can tear us down. We would love to feel support and help, hear gratitude and warm words from our colleagues.

Start by giving them.

Maybe we worry the doctors we work with will get big heads if we are too kind. Don’t start complimenting them too much or their ego will grow too big!

Don’t worry. This career is always working to cut us down to size. A little support and kindness won’t hurt anyone.
I’m going to focus on good news today. Point out when my colleagues do good work. Offer a word of encouragement or a kind word of gratitude.
