I don't think more science will do it. What's lacking is humanist interpretation of the science. In other words, science-based storytelling (which can come through any number of channels, including art) that can connect with people on a much deeper emotional level.
And to clarify, I'm not necessarily talking about fear. I'm talking about a range of emotions. Whatever will get people to care enough to vote on climate as their top issue, to become change advocates, and to even (gasp!) start using less fossil fuel.
This is obviously a problem for humanists to lead on, not scientists!

Scientists have a supporting role: to help their humanist colleagues understand and portray the science accurately.
