#CSPC2018 @ChiefSciCan congratulates @MehrdadHariri and his team for the 10th anniversary of @sciencepolicy, and on the success of #SciParl2018 for facilitating great dialogue for #scipol and #cdnsci in Parliament 🙌🙌🙌

... Also thanks the #scipol community for being there and answering the call when they were needed.

Getting the @ChiefSciCan office together was a challenge like for #ECR just starting up a lab, and like #cdnsci she has build an excellent team

#DSA network has started to develop via @NRCan, @NRC_CNRC, @csa_asc, @DFO_Science!

#Budget2018 reinvestments in fundamental research also brought much more work onto the @ChiefSciCan table, a welcome addition.

Shout out to #scicomm groups like @LetsTalkScience & #SciParl2018

She also has been honoured to take part in #CRCC and be invited to participate in #SBD science based departments to work more collaboratively and ensure no gaps (#science, #policy, #economicl) are left behind. This is a step towards a whole of govt strategy

Also mentions that with her office #cdnsci has taken place at the table, including international meetings and with the #G7. Particular shout out to the mandate letter on oceans and plastics, which is a grand challenge and a priority.

Great Q from @MehrdadHariri to @ChiefSciCan #CSPC2018 - how will the #DSA network improve #scipol and evidence informed policy in ways existing science officers cannot? A: there is a strong need for extra hands to help ADMs thru this role, to create bridges.

Next Q, how is Canada doing on #scienceadvice compared to other countries? @ChiefSciCan points to some of the great work from Paul Dufour outlining this. Paul gives a thumbs up 👍 #CSPC2018

If the public asks, why do we need a @ChiefSciCan, what do you answer? A: the public does value this office (they have said so!), and the presence of an objective advisor who can challenge #policy where more #evidence is required, and who can give trustworthy advice, is valued 👏

Q on how we should promote #talent development and #HQP? @ChiefSciCan says strong research generates great ideas AND great talent, this is something that must stay at the forefront of #scipol. Broader HQP questions should go towards @JustinTrudeau @Bill_Morneau @NavdeepSBains

S&T from @GAC_Corporate asks how IP created in universities will be treated to attract international projects and to compete internationally. @ChiefSciCan says we can't look at #IP monolithically. Drugs take longer to develop than software. This is important among many priorities
