But it’s a predictable outcome of relatively recent articles of pop conservative faith. If the mainstream press isn’t just afflicted with liberal bias but literal “fake news” & totally untrustworthy... well, then any old crazy shit MIGHT be true, right?
And if the worst insult in pop conservatism is “elitist,” surprise surprise, nobody has the authority Buckley once did to say “hey, these water flouridation cranks are ridiculous, their theories are nutty, and they’re not part of our movement.”
