Although third parties appear to be benign, in our system of government they tend to be perverse--mainly being spoilers, hurting the major party closest to them ideologically. That's why tricksters on the right love the Greens. stoehr.substack.com/p/weaponizing-…
To see just how perverse third parties are, they elected Republican scum Paul LePage governor of Maine twice. And they are threatening to elect another Republican as governor by splitting the sane vote, again.
From the point of view of the Republican and Democratic parties, the best case for third parties is that they bring people to the polls to vote for president who would not otherwise vote, and they probably vote for like-minded candidates down ticket.
The worst case for third parties is that they are manipulated by major parties to hurt their major party competitor. Jill Stein definitely helped Trump. It would have made sense for Republicans to channel money to her.
