At first I assumed this was a pseudonym or a parody account, right? Then I looked closer. Blue checkmark. It really does seem to be John Dean.
I rebuke myself for spending so much time on Twitter, but honestly--how can anyone resist? Has there ever been anything more interesting, ever?
I mean, that really seems to be John Dean, and he really does seem to be lecturing Donald Trump--who really *does* seems to be the President of the United States--about how this is all going to end. In public. In real time. How am I supposed to pay attention to anything else?

In all the histrionic, hyper-partisan commentary about the Great Wall of Mexico, some eminently sensible points by @PeterZeihan don't get enough discussion.

I'll quote, because I think his argument has been painfully neglected:

"The Sonoran and Chihuahuan Deserts that form the bulk of the American-Mexican border regions are among the most dangerous, desolate regions of the planet. That makes it a good border–it is hard to cross.
"Would-be migrants have to make crossings in the deep desert. Dangerous, desolate areas with no towns also have another defining characteristic: no roads. Anyone who crosses the deep desert largely has to do so on foot, and a great many die trying.

This is a good introduction, in English, to the problem with the Gilets Jaunes. Owing to the domestic chaos in the US, it seems, Americans aren't hearing about any of this in the news, or so some tell me.
That in itself is surreal. It used to be that a story like this would make headlines. "Backed by Vladimir Putin, the far-right and far-left have joined forces in France violently to destroy the French Republic. Their only shared goal is to realign France with Russia."
That's really not an exaggeration, or sensationalism. But I do understand: Who has the bandwidth to think about France right now?

I agree completely with @NTenzer when he says that violence is consubstantial with this movement. It's not the word I would have chosen in English, but it's correct: the violence is now inherent; it can't be cordoned off or dismissed as "not truly representative."
Allowing them sack Paris once a week as a form of "legitimate democratic expression" is about as a good an idea as letting the Sturmabteilung and the Rotfrontkämpferbund have a regular go at each other and the police on the streets of Berlin.
The police should *never* be so undermanned that they're forced to retreat. They're there to enforce the law. No free nation can retreat from that and remain free.

Tbh I’m not great at this myself. But at my best:

- Be as precise as you can about the individual components of the work you have promised to do

- have a simple routine of checking in on yourself, I find it useful at the start, middle and of every day
Most importantly you want to be honest with yourself about why you might be avoiding some task. Does it feel pointless? Does it seem overwhelming? Does it involve asking somebody for help, which feels weird? Articulating this with kindness to yourself minimises procrastination

Something happened that rlly unsettled me. I am up in Edinburgh at the fringe festival with my four girlfriends. At the last minute, a mate's boyfriend decided to come with us for the week. It's mostly ok as we rented out a uni flat and we each have a separate bedroom (1)
He is a TYPICAL soft boy, bro-socialist, pop-culture junkie and has a v combatitive conversation style, ergo we have clashed a couple of times but so far we are keeping things pleasant. (2)
However, we were about to see a show but needed the loos beforehand so we went in search of a toilet, yet we only came across the women's toilets. Casually and breezily he just strolls right in. Alarm bells start ringing. (3)

Spending too much time wading around in the Runoff reports and I noticed something that struck me as odd. It has to do with Empower Texans and donations to Jonathan Stickland. #txlege
If you look at Stickland's filings from the past year, SemiJul17 and SemiJan18, he has taken in $299k. None of it has come from Empower. Lots of it from the usual Empower donors, but none from the mothership.
Stickland hasn't had to file since the SemiJan, as he didn't have a opponent in the primary, but others have. In the latest Runoff reports, Empower reports they have given Stickland $38k, with $20k on 02/28/18 and $18k on 03/29/18
