This is Avera Mengistu, a Jewish Israeli of Ethiopian descent who suffers from mental illness. He turned 32 today.

His family & friends can't celebrate his birthday with him: He is being held captive in #Gaza by Hamas in violation of international law and basic human decency.
Four gears ago, #Hamas took Avera - an innocent civilian - as a prisoner. Since then, his family have heard nothing from him. They have no proof that he's even alive, as the International Red Cross has been denied access to him.

Locked up in #Gaza for the crime of being Jewish.
Is this "freedom fighting"? Is this "resisting #occupation"? No and no. This is depraved, wicked, brutal and utterly wrong.
Let it be known: This is the true face of #Hamas, a terrorist organisation which officially controls #Gaza & unofficially rules in many Palestinian areas in the West Bank. To achieve peace, the Palestinian people must reject such hatred & overthrow these wicked, violent criminals

My Jewish grandfather, along with many thousands others, fled from Iraq, losing property there, as a result of the Farhud (murderous pogrom in 1941).

Please delist all stolen Jewish lands in Iraq.

And Syria. And Egypt, Yemen, Lebanon, Libya, Morroco, Jordan, etc.
We can also get into stolen Jewish land in Gaza, Hebron, Jericho, and Jerusalem, too.
People would do well to remember that it wasn't just in Europe that Jews were refugees - over the ages right up the even the last few years(!) Jews were made to flee their homes across the Middle East.

1. After Trump's declaration 6 months ago, I went to Damascus Gate in Jerusalem and asked Arabs there what they thought of the decision to move the US embassy. Most were dismayed, but didn't justify violence. Some explicitly told me that they were upset with America, not Israel.
2. Today, over 35 people have died in Gaza so far. It seems to me that Hamas used this sequence of protests to whip up latent dismay and convert it into potent hatred and violence against Israel.
3. It's interesting to note that the violence is occurring almost exclusively in Gaza. There's little acts of sympathy in the West Bank or east Jerusalem. The anger is very clearly being stoked by Hamas.

1/ I'm stunned, but not surprised by AT&T's decision to extended their #Friends licensing deal with Netflix through 2019. A perfect example of, despite saying they were committed to winning in SVOD, Big Media wants to have their cake, eat it to - and then hope they get a 3rd cake
2/ #Friends is one of Netflix's most valuable titles. It's one of the most celebrated sitcoms, one of Netflix's most popular series, and has a whopping 236 episodes of tonnage - and a fervent fanbase
3/ AT&T could (and should) have simply moved #Friends to HBO, their leading SVOD asset. Imagine the impact on customer acquisition - all of a sudden the press coverage inundates all Friends fans to get HBO, if they haven't already!

After attacking Trump for holding a rally during a hurricane he had no control over, today media is absolutely horrified that Trump had a meeting with Kanye at the White House AFTER the hurricane.
Never mind that they, themselves, have blown off coverage of the aftermath of the hurricane, they are suddenly hysterical about the “unseemingly” use of a curse word. And in the WHITE HOUSE! They same media who didn’t bat an eye when Clinton screwed an intern in the WHITE HOUSE!
The same media who doesn’t have a problem with Dem politicians regular use of curse words in speeches and rallies, like Tom Perez and their new darling “Beta” O’Rourke.
