...provide medically assisted treatment, safe injection facilities and needle exchanges, and sexual health services. Some in our communities are unaware about how important these services are, and also the consequences for not having them. Get. Out. And. Vote! /2
What is more, some in our communities will oppose these treatments / services by claiming that they foster more addictive behavior and enable individuals to avoid change. Not so. There is good evidence to support MAT and SIS.

Yet, in the great state of #Iowa some programs are philosophically opposed to MAT and I hope they consider the unnecessary loss of life we will see because of that. MAT is gold standard, esp. with high quality evidence based psychosocial supports. /4
This is heartbreaking. All practicing addiction counselors agree to the same oath to do no harm (priming non nocere). How can we claim this if we withhold the gold standard of care for opioid use disorder? These disparaging views of MAT come from a negligence to face facts. /5
#Iowa substance use treatment providers, doctors, nurse practitioners, when will you wake up and take a stand and do your part to assist? How many more must die needlessly in our communities before we see action take the place of apathy? /6
