The Fake Accounts Aren’t Always this Obvious?
Two days ago (8/24) a new account (@u_franken) theoretically belonging to former Senator Al Franken was created. Both @ZellaQuixote and I are old enough to remember when it was totally cool to say "inbox me" to random strangers, which is to say never.
In addition to telling people to "inbox me", the fake Al Franken account @u_franken also posts copies of the real Al Franken's tweets from his @SenFranken account. If you're looking for Franken's real post-Senate account, he can be found at @AlFranken, btw.
Searching for @u_franken's tweet reveals that this is not the first time a tweet with that exact text has appeared - @bradpaisrleyco1, an account impersonating musician @BradPaisley, posted the same thing in March.
Additionally, a shorter form of the same phrase appeared on the timelines of two other accounts impersonating musicians: @chasericelive (real account is @ChaseRiceMusic) and @JasonAldeanW (real account is @Jason_Aldean).
Conclusion: the fake Al Franken account @u_franken and the three fake musician accounts @bradpaisrleyco1, @chasericelive, @JasonAldeanW are likely creations of the same person, who apparently decided to diversify their Twitter impersonation accounts.
Thanks as always to @ZellaQuixote for excellent detective work. Also, an additional thank you to @HomoInvictus for helping us see this one.
Typo earlier in thread: fake Brad Paisley account is @bradpairsleyco1.
