1- My thread for the day :
It is while reading on critical thinking that I found an answer to something I knew was happening with the media, but that I couldn’t explain.
2- They would add/remove a meaning to Trump’s comments or change/remove the context as they pleased. Making conservatives or Trump look stupid has almost become a game for them.
3- In rhetoric, when the meaning of a statement is not clear and the intent is to get to the truth, you have to choose the most plausible interpretation of it or you have to let the speaker clarify his/her view. The idea here is not to win but rather have a rational discussion.
4- We call this the principle of charity. Those explanations are not my favorite but they are the best I found. YT:
6- With the arrival of Trump, it has now become apparent that their intent is to win and not test the validity of his arguments. The media at large has been openly violating the principle of charity and has shown how they did not intend to be fair.
7- Here is a short list of articles to validate my point:
a) The news reports how Trump made fun of a disable reporter:
It shows him making gestures while talking about a disabled reporter.
cnn.com/videos/tv/2015…
8- But what does it mean?
Is he making disparaging comments towards someone who suffers a chronic condition?
Or does he have a track record of making those gestures when referring to someone stupid?
9- This compilation seems to demonstrate how he has made those gestures for years when talking about someone he deemed stupid, not handicapped.

The media, though, has decided to pick the worst of the two, violating the principle of charity.
10- b)
In this second exhibit, Trump talks about gun control and says:
“By the way, and if she gets to pick — if she gets to pick her judges, nothing you can do, folks," Trump warned. "Although the Second Amendment people, maybe there is, I don't know."
11- Trump purposely omitted to mention what the ideal action should be. The media then, facing two choices:
1- 2nd amendment people should go out and vote.
2- Second amendment people should take their guns and act.
12- The second choice is not a rational one therefore the first one should have been reported.
Of course, CNN, MSNBC and all of the MSM outlets decided to pick the irrational choice and therefore try to make him look stupid.

13- Another more explicit example from the Washington Post, owned by Jeff Bezos.

14- c)
Donald Trump to Paralympians: “you are tough to watch”
Again, Trumps’ statement leaves multiple possibilities.
1- Trump is mocking the Paralympians or
2- The schedules don’t match therefore making it tough for him to watch them.

15- Ron Desantis:
"The last thing we need to do is to monkey this up by trying to embrace a socialist agenda with huge tax increases and bankrupting the state."
Again, DeSantis is talking about socialism not race but the media prefers to keep pushing the sophistry.
17- Here you have it. This is only one way they do it, there are many more. Hopefully it has helped make the manipulation more obvious to you. I used mostly Trump example as he has contributed most to blow them out of the water but it applies to Canadian politics as well.
18- I have spent many hours doing the research, I do not ask for money. If you like, please feel free to share, like and POST your own EXAPMLES if you want me to debunk them. Cheers. /END
