1/ Ok so I’ve read some of the Kavanaugh “classified” documents. In my opinion, there is only one reason why there would be a stink about releasing documents such as this:
2/ They reveal clearly Kavanaugh’s deep held beliefs on controversial topics that the GOP wants to keep hidden from the public. There is obviously nothing in them that is a national security risk and any personal identifying information could easily be redacted.
3/ So what’s wrong with the public understanding what Kavanaugh, who is looking to be seated for a LIFETIME appointment, believes in a topic? Everyone knows that the GOP is nominating him BECAUSE of those beliefs.
4/ In the same way that a majority liberal Senate, if in power, would nominate a judge who would forward THEIR agenda. This is no big secret. So why act like he is going to be neutral or does not have any pre-set ideas about a subject if you think his position is meritorious?
5/ You should be happy to showcase his beliefs! Why hide what we already know?! The man is being selected by the GOP BECAUSE of the beliefs that he has articulated in these documents.
6/ This is emblematic of the BIGGEST problem I have with the GOP: they are cowards when it comes to defending their positions. They try to act like what they are advocating does something it clearly does not. If you take a position then defend that position!
7/ You don’t like Roe vs Wade? You want it repealed? You want to put a judge in there who will vote to repeal it? Then SAY THAT! But don’t act like that’s not what he’s about! (Senator Collins). Fight on the merits of your true position.
8/ You want to pass a tax bill that benefits the top 1% and does not substantially help the middle class? Then say that! Explain your rationale and then and do it! Be proud of it! But don’t act like it is going to help everyone when it clearly is not!
9/ You want to pass healthcare that does not cover everyone? Then say that! And explain why! Maybe it’s because you think it will benefit everyone in the long run? I don’t know. But stand behind your choices. Don’t act like everyone will be covered when they won’t be.
