My training in atomic structures back in the early 90's was still based on the Bohr model, which explains why I'm having to relearn most of it now. Interesting to see 'shells' are still correct, just not necessarily in the spherical shape I was taught. #LoveToLearn
Did a few hours of YouTube videos & Wikipedia reading on how the atomic orbitals are structured last night. While it's new information, it meshed with what I was taught insofar as energy levels & whatnot.
While I'm happy being a programmer, part of me wonders if I could have made a bigger difference in the world studying physics, something my brain is attuned to for some reason.

A free electron doesn't spin around a nucleus, but as soon as it hops back into a covalent shell.... it starts its blurry little cloud dance.

Where does that energy come from?
I know the electron itself has a spin. When it is knocked off the covalent shell, does it absorb the energy from its previous orbit & store it as more spin?

I know when it's excited into another level & drops, it emits a photon, but what about when it's completely pulled out?
Or am I thinking of the electron wrong? Is it always a cloud of probability, even when not attached to a covalent shell?

Finally got some time on the CNC last night. I need to completely tear it down & put it back together. The wheels are just not tight enough & the flex is pretty bad at times.
I want to upgrade the Z Axis to something stiffer & maybe switch to a ball screw motion rather than belts, but I keep thinking the aluminum rails are still the weak point in the whole system.
Not sure at what point it makes more financial sense to just buy a new CNC, but I don't have the $ to do that anyway.

My daughter is reading another book right now, so I've started on Kip Thorne's Black Holes & Time Warps.

To think that Einstein just *figured this stuff out*, sans any physical experiments, makes my brain hurt.
I mean, he basically said "Newtonian physics is wrong" which, at the time, was as crazy as when people said Heliocentrism was how things actually worked. However, once the mind understands there is no fixed point in the 'aether', relativity just starts making so much sense.
I haven't even gotten into the black hole stuff yet and it's absolutely fascinating to see the history behind one of the greatest scientific breakthroughs of all time.

Having watched the @Andrew_Adonis interview on LBC I downloaded the government's referendum leaflet - first 2 pages attached. There is of course no indication that the UK might leave the single market altogether, just not access it as an EU member. Please read rest of thread.
I'm struggling to reconcile the warnings in the government own referendum leaflet with Theresa May's current Brexit proposals. They are poles apart, TM's being far more radical than even the leaflet envisaged and, by implication, more damaging for the British economy.
Mrs May's must improve our lives but, based on the government's own leaflet, her Brexit proposals appear to reject that notion. No wonder people want a vote on the final deal. I would like MPs on both sides of the house to demand she guarantees improved living standards.

If past fortnight has been about domestic management, then coming fortnight will be about UK working w EU to find ways to get mvt on WA/PD
Because of that hiatus after Salzburg, there's now v.little time left to achieve mvt in time for Oct #EUCO, hence the rush now

Interesting to see @PeterLBrandt is calling for a 65% chance wedge support support failing and a bottom of $3505 based on TA models. This would be inline with the peak to trough retrace we had in the 2013->2015 bear market. /1
The question to ask is whether we can unwind from Dec 2017's mania in the $6k-$7k range, or that fails and we're forced to consolidate lower like in 2014. This was the moment of truth in 2014. When support broke and we were forced to unwind at the lower levels... /2
But in 2018 I see none of the weakness of 2014. Those down-whiskers in 2014 were pretty tragic, buyers were weak. Here in 2018 the whiskers are very muted. There's lots of liquidity holding this thing up. /4
