Having watched the @Andrew_Adonis interview on LBC I downloaded the government's referendum leaflet - first 2 pages attached. There is of course no indication that the UK might leave the single market altogether, just not access it as an EU member. Please read rest of thread.
I'm struggling to reconcile the warnings in the government own referendum leaflet with Theresa May's current Brexit proposals. They are poles apart, TM's being far more radical than even the leaflet envisaged and, by implication, more damaging for the British economy.
Mrs May's must improve our lives but, based on the government's own leaflet, her Brexit proposals appear to reject that notion. No wonder people want a vote on the final deal. I would like MPs on both sides of the house to demand she guarantees improved living standards.
The pound has already slumped and will drop if there's a poor deal or, worse still, a no-deal Brexit. This has driven up living costs, hitting those least able to afford it. And reliance on no change in freedom to travel? We now know it will change, for the worse!
Again the expression "full access to the single market is used" encouraging readers to assume we would have some level of access even if we left, just not "full access". And note that the even government's own leaflet predicts 10 years to unpick the relationship with the EU.
Again there is a massive disparity between TM's much more radical version of leave, with its abundance of NEW red lines, and the referendum leaflet's implied softer, no less warning, version. I will come on to the TM additions later and yes I am justifying a #PeoplesVote
On UK borders the referendum leaflet made it clear that the UK was already in control of its own (not in the Schengen area) and in fact the freedom of movement decree gives powers like registration that our government, in contrast to other EU members, has chosen not to implement.
To make matters worse the concerns about losing access to shared criminal records databases is now a reality! So much for making us safer! TM must give a guarantee of our safety in front of the HoC. Again, TM's proposals are more radical and dangerous than implied in the leaflet.
Yes it is a once in a generation decision, and the leave deal that TM claims is now 95% agreed is so radically different from the softer Brexit envisaged in the government's own referendum leaflet that a #PeoplesVote on it is essential. It's a different proposition.
What I'd love to see is a new version of the government referendum leaflet, updated with the impacts of TM's deal under each heading. I'm sure it would look very different. I will share the independent forecasts later. So what new things have been added?
For a start there will be no access whatsoever to the single market and the customs union. The exclusion of the European Court of Justice is another addition with the total rejection of any ECJ juridiction in relation to trade between the UK and the EU, worker rights etc.
At one and the same time as removing ECJ authority the government is planning to prevent legal action against them for wrongdoing, effectively giving them sweeping powers in the name of deregulation to reduce and in some cases completely erase worker rights in the workplace.
Deregulation is the watchword of TM and her government after Brexit but that was not the message in the referendum leaflet. There was no mention of desperately dangerous plans to train nurses to become doctors in just 2 years because of the massive skill shortage in the NHS.
Nor were we told of the plan for supervisor vets heading groups of trainees doing critical animal checks at a time when foot and mouth disease has just reappeared. Nor the plan to reduce public health safety by importing meat from countries with lower standards than the EU.
We've already had one major financial crash because regulation was lacking and now the government wants to remove regulation again, another aspect of leaving the EU not covered in the government's own referendum leaflet.
The UK is protected from the imposition of new EU laws and has exercised opt-outs already to get us where we are. The opportunities for our children are also mentioned. All again contrasts to TM's empty opportunity promises. What opportunity Mrs May? To die in poverty?
Here is TMs Chequers proposal the contents of which are a still a major departure from what was envisaged in the government's referendum leaflet warnings. What did we vote for in June 2016? We still don't know!

bbc.com/news/uk-politi…
The Chequers proposal's "as frictionless as possible" trade plans are still a huge nightmare for British businesses. Watch episode one of #3blokesinapub on youtube if you doubt me. Neither TM nor her cabinet understand the red tape, certifications, insce and inspection needs.
And of course the implications of leaving the EU for the regions and overseas UK territories were not covered in the referendum leaflet.
Also not anticipated in the govt referendum leaflet was the exclusion of the service sector from the final deal, although it represents 80% of the UK's GDP. Again this feels like a new storyline when we look at the Chequers deal TM is proposing.
Above all, one possibility not considered in the government's referendum leaflet was that of leaving on WTO terms only, a no-deal option that isn't! How can the government even contemplate that without referring it to the people for a #PeoplesVote ? It would be catastrophic!
Given what we now know, I find myself asking if the proposed Chequers plan even satisfies Leave supporters as it's a world apart from both campaign promises and that envisaged in the government's referendum leaflet. Another good reason why they may also want a #peoplesvote
Gaslighting has been Mrs May's method of shifting the Brexit objectives. Replace the old message with a constantly repeated new version. That's why it's vital to refer back to the consequences identified in the government's official referendum leaflet sent to every household.
The PM, a 2016 Remain supporter, is now engaged in delivering a far more destructive version of Brexit than envisaged then and has the cheek to term it opportunity. All but the most hardline of supporters on the Leave side believe that message. Mrs May you've lost your way!
Here again are the introductory 2 pages of the government's own referendum leaflet which was sent to every household prior to the June 2016 referendum. What a difference two and a half years makes to the Brexit story. Now we have a major nation-wide disaster on our hands.

And the part that refers to single market access.
