2016 Trump campaign illegally solicited contributions from foreign nationals via email. I helped write & file complaint. FEC lawyers recommended enforcement. But 2 GOP Commissioners blocked enforcement. Case dismissed on 2-2 vote. @EllenLWeintraub explains in strong statement.

Outcome isn’t only troubling aspect. Timeline’s also troubling for such a clear violation. Complaint filed June 2016. FEC staff lawyer recommendation to find violation Feb 2017. But no Commission vote until July 31, 2018. What took so long? Did GOP Commissioners slow walk this?
