Today we reflect on what occurred years ago to our country. We remember those victims of that tragic day. Our nation was stunned. I remember September 11th to be a day when I strapped into a jet prepared to do what my country asked of me. I was ready and willing.
For years after that, many Americans also were ready and willing when the nation called, and we are all thankful for this. But today, we must consider the fact that we have been at war for 17 years since.
We will soon have men and women wearing the uniform who were literally not even born when these attacks took place.
We need to make sure our country is safe and protected from those who would do us harm, but we also need Congress to step up, debate, and authorize the wars we are sending our forces to fight on our behalf.
That is the best way we can honor those who gave their lives both on September 11th, and those who have been fighting to defend us since then.
Let’s make sure that we, as proud patriotic Americans, elect leaders who are not afraid to question the strategy, question the reasoning behind sending our men and women into battle for the next 17 years and beyond.
On this day, I’ll be giving my family an extra hug and recommitting myself to keeping our country safe and making it a better place.
