Stop With the Moral Porn
If we count deaths according to the new math being deployed to inflate Puerto Rico's death-toll (a methodology never used before for any disaster, natural or man-made), the estimate for 9/11 could run into hundreds of thousands, if not millions.

Kamala Harris has even floated a bill for Congress to mandate that all future death-tolls from natural disasters be computed using the newly minted methodology which will ensure the death-toll will keep rising month after month after the disaster until some political goal is met.
Roughly, the new methodology basically calculates the death-toll from a natural disaster as the difference between the number of deaths from all causes (disease, accidents, violence, suicides, old age, etc.) in the year following the disaster versus the year before.
Imagine if for some reason, the total number of deaths in an area during the year following a natural diaster were to be less than during the year before, will we say the disaster actually saved lives? That would be ridiculous. So this is simply a recipe for inflating death-toll.
All sorts of parasites benefit from an inflated death-toll by raiding the national treasury. So liberal politicians, rather than focusing on solutions that help people, focus on inventing new math to create new opportunities for graft, aided and abetted by NYT, because ... Trump!

To maintain sanity in our public discourse and not let natural disasters be hijacked by political agendas we should demand that politicians and the media follow this simple and sensible rule:
