Yes, the old Law Merchant is a codified truth mechanism—honor among thieves?
Under the "laws of nature and nature's God," we could do this exchange in one of two ways.
1) Barter
2) Contract

If there is a contract, the law follows the letter and intent of the contract.
I could take this to court (admiralty) and try my luck there... Might win, but the decision is in the hands of an administrator (judge), with a VAST range of judicial slack.

Laws aren't bad... needed, in fact. They've just been used by very bad people as a tool to confuse us, and profit from our ignorance for their own nefarious gain.
UCC can be QUITE a powerful tool for FREEZING assets... Bad guys fear it.
