1. Late Fridays, circumstances permitting, I like to spend time delving into sovereign citizen stuff, esp. looking for examples of sovereign things. Sometimes I share them here. Today I looked for new (to me) UCC1-308 examples. Don't worry, it's more interesting than it sounds.
2. UCC1-308, in reality, is part of the Uniform Commercial Code, state laws governing commercial transactions & deliberately the same from state to state, to facilitate commerce. UCC1-308 allows you to sign contracts or accept commercial documents w/o giving away certain rights.
3. However, to sovereign citizens it does a whole lot more. Sovereigns believe that, long ago, a conspiracy subverted and replaced the entire government. Constitutional and other law was replaced with commercial law, which now governs everything. Moreover, the illegitimate
4. government enslaved everybody by making them sign “contracts” they didn’t even know where contracts—things like drivers licenses, social security, even using zip codes. Sovereign citizens believe they have divorced themselves from the illegitimate gov't but are very
5. careful not to be “trapped” by it again. So what many gurus teach is that whenever you sign a document—or even whenever you sign your name, period—you put UCC1-308 next to your signature (until they renumbered the code, it used to be 1-207, which you still may see).
6. UCC1-308 is thus magical language that immunizes the sovereign citizen from being reenslaved by the illegitimate government. Some sovereign citizens use it like ketchup, slavering it on everything.
6. You’ve probably seen UCC1-308 yourself. One of the most common references is an urban legend on Facebook that unless you make a statement (containing a UCC1-308 reference), Facebook has the rights to all your photos and content. Totally bogus, but endlessly recirculated.
