Hardcover of #Ironsworn by @ShawnTomkin arrived last night, just in time for our first session next week. I'm excited by this game for a few reasons, so let's spend a few tweets on them: (1/5)
#Ironsworn is GM-optional, in the sense that it plays just as well as a solo RPG or an equally-distributed storytelling experience by beginning with honesty and integrity, then throwing in simple, quick, random prompts/oracles for when your mind runs dry. (2/5)
Additionally, #Ironsworn streamlines the creation of foes/challenges by them effectively having only one stat, leaning on the fiction for the flavour. That stat, being difficulty, can easily be randomly generated, too. (3/5)
The challenge of every action you take in #Ironsworn is either the progress you've already made, or a random roll opposing your action, yet it always provides a reliable threefold granularity of results (like PbtA) and plenty of ways to use your previous luck to make more. (4/5)
Lastly, #Ironsworn's tone is inherently genuine, because any setting you play it in centres around characters with integrity: They swear vows to themselves or others and work towards fulfillment of those vows. Should they fail or abandon them, it weighs upon them heavily. (5/5)
Thanks for coming to my thread about #Ironsworn. The rules are legally free in PDF form, the printed materials are reasonable, & the website kicks serious hindquarters: ironswornrpg.com (OMG 6/5)
