Over the last few weeks, I have had an increasing number of Brazilians contacting me with their fears and concerns regarding Jair Bolsanaro, the hardline, Far Right presidential candidate. @DanielaAbade asked whether I could pass on her words regarding him - here's a thread. 1/

Brazilian women are leading the way in opposition to Bolsonaro, with a massive #elenao / #EleNão ('Not Him') campaign, afraid of the policies he will introduce - he has a long history of misogynist language in his speeches and comments to the media. nytimes.com/2018/09/24/wor…

Last week made 19 years that I survived my suicide attempt. At the hospital I found out that I had been within five minutes of losing my life. Now it makes sense that these last two weeks have been a bit trying for me. I didn't realize I was coming up on that anniversary
I am in a much better place than I was back then but I still struggle. What I realized over the last few weeks is the tools that I have used to cope all these years have been to suppress my issues rather than to deal with them. I realized there is no shame in asking for help.
I figured out I can't change things & people but I can let it go & I can change my reaction & I can change my perspective on life. I just need to finally get the tools to help me get there. I want to be able to lead my best life possible & to enjoy it. I now know I deserve it .

First, I view politics - and elections in particular - as highly strategic exercises.

They're complicated contests to put the candidates who can best help advance your interests in the best position to win.

They aren't sing-offs where two performers vie for a trophy.

2/
They're chess matches that play out over long periods of time - and they both impact and are impacted by a hundred other chess matches.

What you do with your first 40 moves determines whether you get to checkmate on your 41st.
