Why was it essential that the FBI investigate whether Kavanaugh lied to the Senate about his yearbook posts? Because, as I discuss in thread, as a 25+ year federal prosecutor I examined hundreds of witnesses & learned that "little" lies frequently hid much deeper & darker truths.
1/ First, I believe high school yearbook posts typically are a frozen-in-time window into the attitudes, moors, likes, dislikes and memories of students. Even if exaggerated, they are a contemporaneous reflection of Kavanaugh's mindset while he attended Georgetown Prep.
2/ The first "little" lie was in his opening statement where Kavanaugh attempted to shift the blame for his yearbook page crassness to the demands of "some editors and students" and that he just "went along." Why was he so afraid to own what he wrote?
3/ In addition to being a church-going student-athlete, "Bart" described himself as an officer of "Keg City Club" & the "Biggest Contributor" to "Beach Week Ralph Club." He traded "boofing" jokes w/ pal Judge, declared himself a "Renate Alumnius" & as fond of the Devil's Triangle
4/ Rather than vomiting from binge drinking, Kavanaugh explained to Sen. Whitehouse that "Ralph Club" was merely a reference to his legendary "weak stomach" which reacted to "spicy foods" and beer, then awkwardly questioning Whitehouse's drinking habits. More deflection and lies.
5/ And he just couldn't bring himself to admit to Sen. Klobatchar that his binge drinking led to periods of memory loss, resorting instead to a unique trick of practiced liars, diverting attention by questioning the Senator's drinking habits. More purposeful obfuscations.
6/ As to "boofing," Kavanaugh implausibly explained it referred to "flatulence" rather than its common reference to anal sex or injecting drugs or alcohol via the rectum. And "Devil's Triangle"? Why that's not a threesome, it's a heretofore unknown drinking game. More silly lies.
7/ Most important was his feeble attempt to cast the pervasive "Renate Alumnius" reference as collegial affection rather than derogatory. To set the record straight, Renate herself called them "hateful, hurtful and untrue." So why these lies about drinking and sexual degradation?
8/ Because Kavanaugh is trying to conceal a larger truth, a truth Dr. Ford claims to have witnessed: That in high school Kavanaugh desperately sought to be "one of the boys," regularly drank to excess and acted in a sexually demeaning way toward girls. Rigorous inquiry is a must!
9/ And a final reason the FBI should be required to dig into these lies: Kavanaugh's regular & oft repeated insistence that "what happens at Georgetown Prep stays at Prep!" Nope, not when you've been credibly accused of attempted rape & tell lies about contemporaneous behavior.
