1) Had to go to a funeral this afternoon for my friend who passed away this weekend. Listened to a pastor who had never met him ramble on about fucking religion.

2) I can’t do anything for the family. I can’t even do much for my friends who also knew him. But I can do something for Jacob. I can sear him into the memory of as many fucking people as I can, because he deserves to be known.
3) People have probably surmised that I play D&D. You know, Dungeons and Dragons. Its so much more than that. The pastor reading off his obituary called him a ‘video gamer’.

4) Every thursday, we’d gather at someone’s house, sit around a table, and we’d do things most people can’t even IMAGINE.
5) Are most of us ever going to climb a mountain? No. Are most of us ever going to get into dogfights in space? No. Are most of us ever going to stand as the few against the many and let out barbaric roars of defiance against the odds? Probably not. If we do somethings gone wrong
6) Jacob was smart. Jacob was creative. Jacob was that kind of happy and excitable person that he could pick up entire groups of people and drag them forwards kicking and screaming through sheer fucking enthusiasm alone.
7) He was FUNNY. Holy shit the zingers he could lob across the table that could throw the entire table into fucking hysterics.
He took as good as he gave. He was good humored. I’d never seen him get pissy or throw a tantrum if something didn’t go his way. He would always LAUGH.

8) If we’re talking solar systems, Jacob was the fucking sun. He could get the entire table revolving around him, his personality itself had that kind of gravitational pull.
9) And now he’s dead. An accident in a fucking Amazon warehouse.
10) He was 23, and had graduated college in 4 short years, a great accomplishment by any measure, only to step out into the bombed out fucking crater that was the job market. His degree was in Psychology. He graduated with honors. Smart doesn’t begin to cover what he was.
11) I can’t do anything to help his family. I can’t do anything to help his friends. The campaign I was running with him as a player, well, I cannot keep it going without him. I just can’t. He was too important for the group.
12) But I can say goodbye.
