superhero attorney @TessBorden just argued an oral motion to Hudson County Superior Court Judge Peter Bariso to allow the public to exercise their right to record video at this hugely important public meeting about the ICE cobtracr. He denied it immediately. 1/thread
Judge Bariso even said people can’t record audio if their phones also have capabilities to record video. We’ve asked for a written decision and we'll be following up. 2/
The judge broadly cited security concerns. He said the public could have made an application in advance.

Except...since it was a public meeting, the public assumed their right to record under New Jersey common law would apply. 3/
Government can’t hold meetings in places that don’t allow meetings to be public. 4/
Journalists @terrencemcd, @mattkatz00, @MonsyAlvarado, @vicenews, @HudsonCoView + @hudson_reporter are here and not fully able to report on government actions and matters of public concern to the public. Matt wrote that in 18 years of reporting in NJ, this is a first for him. 5/
We'd post a picture...but, well, y'know. 6/6
