LAW 31: Control the options: get others to play with the cards you deal.

People's need for a sense of autonomy comes close to their need to avoid starvation and death.

Understand that the only freedom you can have comes from your character, not from validation and circumstance.
1. People are addicted to the illusion of control. That’s why they attach to outcomes and suffer for a lifetime.
When you attach to the outcome, you become a slave of circumstances. The more control you seek to force, the less you have.
2. Defensiveness exposes you to malicious manipulation and chronic self-sabotage. Keep an open mind and a vigilant eye.
Worrying about people’s intentions is a waste of time. Cultivate discernment of character instead.

Intentions come and go, they have little staying power. Character can last a lifetime.
3. To sell and persuade, lead people to their self-interest indirectly.
When you force your views on others, you create resistance and defensiveness – even if people initially agree with you.

Making claims creates objections – that’s basic sales practice. To reach people without struggle, let them convince themselves.
4. A task taken on willingly always turns out better than one undertaken grudgingly, no matter how strong the reasons.

Denying people the opportunity to say no will backfire over time even if they agree to do what you want them to.
Help people imagine the choices you want them to make.
5. You open up opportunity by developing your grit, gaining valuable skills and cultivating clear perception.

Choices don't just exist, they are created out of your intent.
If you let conditions determine your options, you submit to circumstance.

If you don’t make the options, you’re not leading yourself.
The more value you create and embody, the more options you will have. Take this as a law of nature.
You can sap your own energy looking for agreement and validation – or invest in creating your own luck.
6. In creating choices for yourself, indirection is your closest ally.

The more you seek to "keep your options open", the more of your power is wasted in indecision and dithering.

Commit to investing in your character and see your options grow.
7. Ego attachment blinds you to many of the best choices you can make.

You can work for ego or work for what you want.

Your CHOICE.
