i just blocked that person on everything. i will never have country for them.
they're diming out the folks in front of me! i'm the person who started the channel! what is you doing?
i really don't get it. there's four people present. I am the only person who clearly reads as not-white. you're talking about shit said on the POC channel — shit that EYE said but clearly this person didn't make the connection — and i'm an actually standing in front of you?

An old thread from @ashoncrawley that i wish i woulda read before.
I said i shoulda linked to this before bc it basically predicts the response i got to that admittedly spicy tweet — that i am talking trash bc i am not an educator or, as @ashoncrawley says, “some other individuated problem” that makes me just a hater or whatever.
But that WaPo essay in that link above is *much* more provocative and pointed than anything in my take, which was again about media credulousness and the starting assumptions about Black children and schools. And it’s written by an educator to boot.

You should read it.

This convo we’re this am is abt the problematic positioning of education-as-silver-bullet, that sufficiently rigorous/no-excuses schools can offset systemic racism. The most vocal champions of that have been Teach For America and its alums, right? How does one square that circle?
There's a whole economy built around "whatever-it-takes" approaches to educating Black kids, and while the schools wildly differ in practice they often fall back on the same rhetoric and the same kind of too-credulous press to bat away real concerns abt how they treat students.

Co-signing @whstancil’s points...but this school also allegedly abused these kids, roughing them and making them kneel for hours “to teach them submission.”
it’s another example of how often the models at schools like this and “zero-tolerance” charters for Black kids really just look like formalized contempt.

People will countenance that abuse — actually praise it and call it *necessary* — if its targets are poor Black kids.
Also, those “Black kids got into elite colleges!” viral videos and news stories have always been icky for this and other reasons

They are far too credulous, whether we’re talking about this school or Urban Prep in Chicago or wherever else

Imagine being actually angry that medical doctors take out time to share life saving knowledge for free on Twitter.

Many of you simply tweet once you have access to internet and a mobile phone. And not because you have access to any intelligent reasoning or something sensible.
Nigeria is a country of about 190 million people, a good majority of which can never afford standard healthcare.

Now some medical doctors out of their free will decide to bridge the gap and help people online with information that can potentially help them live healthier lives
And someone is crying about that.

What exactly is our problem as a people? What exactly is our issue?

You are not doing anything in your little unknown world. You are not contributing anything meaningful to anyone. But you can make yourself a nuisance to distract those who are.

I am by no means a Britney stan, in that I don’t have an encyclopedic knowledge of her work nor have I seen her perform live. HOWEVER, as a person whose entire adolescent soundtrack included Britney’s hits as they happened in real time, this take is hot festering trash.
First of all, Britney Spears is a world class dancer. Her choreography from her 2002-2004 shows/videos ALONE would leave Taylor Swift collapsed on the floor in rehearsal sobbing and suing everyone in the room.

Spent some time learning how to use @SlackHQ -- went down some documentation rabbit holes. Here are the 10 most useful things I learned:
1. First - change your mindset: Slack looks like a chat client but it's so much more. Don't think of it as messaging or it will drive you crazy (this is a big risk given the sheer volume and velocity); use it asynch.
2. Learn how to star things: Star your go-to channels, and star messages; this can act as a to-do list for things you revisit later
