Tweets like this illustrate the perils of building up massive industries where excellence is equated with the ability to cater to "emotions" and "feelings"

While emotions are important, the movie industry promotes a plebeian culture which hurts civilization in the long run
The 20th century will go down as the century of the motion picture - arguably the single greatest influencer of mass culture in the modern era

I love this art form, but I am also wary of its capacity for appealing to the "prurient" side that exists in each of us
By privileging "emotion" over "reflection" and reason, the motion picture industry has this ability to cultivate bad intellectual habits and develop "nice sounding" notions - which don't stand the test of calm reflection
There was a reason conservatives were wary of people who even visited movie houses even as late as say the 1930s-40s.

A man like Rajaji for instance abhorred the motion picture, as something equivalent to smoking or drinking or gambling.

A stance that nobody takes today
Increasingly we have become a society addicted to the visual medium.

First it was the movies. Later television soaps. And now prurient stuff like reality shows, and talk shows
Each of these art forms downplays both inductive wisdom and deductive reasoning.

So the visual medium attacks both tradition and reason. Instead its appeal is to the base nature in each of us.

Sensuality, jealousy, envy, anger, pride
As we spend more and more of our time divorced from reality and instead watching "made up" reality on the screen, we keep promoting these vices that exist in each of us to a greater or a lesser measure
