One reason for anti-Semitism is that Jews have been successful at preserving traditional habits of success: strong families with accumulated social capital, high value on education and hard work. It looks like "cheating" to those who have not cultivated those habits so well.
Of course, this is exacerbated by old regional conflicts; anti-Semitism is a hatred with history. It's also made worse by the way Jews fit into newer Marxist and progressive frameworks of resentment as a relatively wealthy white minority.
Plus there is the Left's strategic alliance with Palestinians, which pumps anti-Semitic intellectual blood through the arteries of academia. When they insist they only hate Israel or just Likud, they sound like they're trying to convince themselves and failing.
One mistake Jews tend to make in politics is supporting progressive causes that weaken and devalue the very same habits of success that help Jewish families do well. They believe these causes are compassionate or tolerant while espousing social conservatism is judgmental.
That mistake is hardly unique to Jews as a demographic. One of the most remarkable trends in American politics is the way highly successful demographics - wealthy and successful people from all backgrounds - tend to preach social liberalism but practice conservatism.
Maybe it's the influence of academia on groups of people with a high percentage of college education, a tendency to equate progressive social policies with "open-mindedness" no matter how disastrous they are in practice.
I would encourage Jewish Americans to support social politics that mirror their own beliefs, instead of setting those beliefs aside to avoid judgmentalism. If you're getting it right, you should want to help other people get it right too. That's compassion, not intolerance.
And also, consider which side of the partisan divide in America supports Jews, Israel, and other issues important to them all the time, versus which side pushes Farrakhan into the shadows so it can scream about anti-Semitism solely when there is political profit in doing so.
The Left's sudden enthusiasm for anti-anti-Semitism is transparently opportunistic. It will burn hot and fade quickly. Opportunists are unreliable allies because another opportunity always comes along soon. Remember what they were saying a month ago. Google it, if necessary. /end
