@emilydugan Adam Armstrong, from Adelaide, applied for a settlement visa to join his long-term partner Duke Westwood who had moved back to Swansea for work.

The submitted evidence, including joint tenancy, joint bank statements, joint car ownership + statements from lawyer, doctor etc
@emilydugan The Home Office ignored all this and rejected the application because their water and energy bills were in Westwood's name only

@laurafleur The appeal court judges absolutely demolish how the judge at Leeds crown court rapidly tried and convicted Robinson/Yaxley-Lennon for contempt in May. Key summary par from the judgment here
@laurafleur Important point: Robinson has been freed BUT is on bail and will face a new hearing on the alleged contempt under a different crown court judge.

Which means, somewhat ironically, that proceedings are active so contempt of court rules apply. Final line of judge's summary:

The STATED objective of the Hostile Environment is to remove illegal immigrants.

I'll try and explain why in fact this is impossible in the UK, and rather the ACTUAL objective of the Hostile Environment is to make life hell for UNDOCUMENTED people. ANY undocumented people.
Two facts first that we need to agree on.

First, a crucial one - in order to remove illegal immigrants, you need to be able to distinguish not just between illegal immigrants and legal IMMIGRANTS, but between illegal immigrants and legal CITIZENS.

The difference is NOT trivial.

After an initial 3 day hunger strike where the Home Office refused to acknowledge the hunger strike, it is clear that they are not listening to us. On Monday 26/02/18, we will cease to participate in detention, we will not eat, use their facilities or work for them.
The detainees are thus staging an all out strike to protest the Home Office’s continued immoral practices. Our demands are for a fair system and an end to the hostile environment policy towards people with legitimate reasons to remain in the U.K.
1. We want an end to indefinite detention and a return to the original plan of the 28 day limit.

1) Mr. Phillips is a Christian baker who refused to bake a wedding cake for a same-sex ceremony.
