It's a bit pessimistic, but a good question and one that I have thought about. Read on...
I'm in a fortunate situation right now. Over the last quarter of my life I've been building up a financial cushion. And although Trump is doing his best to erode my finances on a daily basis, I have a comfortable amount of money in the bank.
So I decided to be my own investor. Set aside a year of living expenses, have a rough plan of action (12 in 12) and see what happens. I consider myself quite lucky to be able to do this, but...
This also means that some days I wear my entrepreneur hat and other days I wear my investor hat. If at the end of 12 months the entrepreneur in me has really created nothing of value or anything even with the (measurable) potential of value...
...the investor side of me would take over. Is it worth investing in this guy (myself) further? Or is it time to decline further funding and politely suggest this guy changes his career.
Hope that answers the question. If I've really created nothing of value after a year, it would probably be time to call it quits and go do something drastically different 😅
But lets talk about something more positive! Like what colour Lamborghini should I buy when I hit 10MM ARR????

1/ I’ve had a few days to reflect on the last 4 months of my startup challenge and I think it’s time for a pivot / recalibration

2/ The challenge began with me wanting to practice execution again, after almost 3 years in a senior corporate role where I didn’t touch any code. I missed building things, had the luxury of free time, so it seemed like a good goal to just “practice shipping”.
3/ Now, after 4 consistent launches in 4 months I feel I’ve proved to myself I’ve still got the knack. I can still build and ship a decent MVP within a given time constraint. But I’m not happy.

Not many people go from launch to sustaining lifestyle in just a couple of months. Maybe that happens to some in survivorship-bias-land. But back in the real world it takes a lot longer. My last SaaS took 6+ months to get to just a few thousand $ MRR.
And that was when I was focused on ONE SaaS product and spent a good amount of time on content marketing every day.
I’ve said many times that revenue isn’t my short term goal. I’ve launched a free open source app, an app that charges $1, an app that has pricing but isn’t charging anything yet, and a job board in a competitive niche. These aren’t the actions of someone focused on revenue 😅

Without a doubt, yes. But then who is to say which strategy is right? Build another MVP or focus on an existing one? I feel like I will “know” when it’s the right time to really focus.
In the end whether you’re successful from iterating one product consistently or successful from trying many things and seeing what works - it’s all down to the chaos monkeys anyway 😅
I think the 12 startup method suits me best because I haven’t quite decided what industry / area I want to focus on. So it’s all experimentation. Even if I wanted to focus on one thing I don’t know what that one thing would be. Yet!

Although some of the investigations have unearthed information we didn't have about the FBI/DOJ/Dem/Media coup attempt on POTUS, and have cleared out positions in FBI/DOJ, what else has been accomplished? Do we have the docs requested? Were subpoenas effective?

My date followed up by asking, “If your boyfriend asked you to cook for him, would you?” I grinned, as I realised my date was sadly playing from a script. I replied, “I don’t have a guy I like who’s asking me to cook, so I can’t say.”
I think my date thought I was being coy. But, I wasn’t. I was just being honest. A while ago, I decided to deal in reality and not hypotheticals. I have tried and failed to control life. All my effort got me was an anxiety problem and therapy.

Up until a couple months ago, I worked full time in the ER. I spent most of my time being exposed to some of the most hateful, selfish, stubborn, disgusting humans on the planet - ppl I had never been exposed to before. I grew up in a good neighborhood with strict parents.
None of my friends used drugs. Most didn’t even drink. We had parents that taught us right from wrong. Parents that showed us how to work for the things we wanted. I had no idea of the kinds of other ppl there were in the world. It wasn’t until I became a nurse that I did.
I became depressed. He majority of ppl I was exposed to on a daily basis were... not what I was used to. Drug seekers. The noncompliant chronically ill. The pts kicked out of every drs office in the area bc of threading staff. The drunks that pee on the floor.

One of the embarrassing things about keeping the "SF/F canon" frozen in amber is that writing is an art whose state advances the same as any other.

Today's writers are BETTER than Heinlein, Asimov, and Tolkien. They have better tools and are better at using them.
Asimov's stuff isn't just dated because he assumed that 500,000 years from now men would use atomic forcefields to disintegrate cigar ash that hits their desk while women used atomic knives in the kitchen.
It's dated because the state of the art of writing has moved on. Modern readers want more. More inner life to their characters, more richness to the settings. Lived-in worlds, lived experiences. A lot of other stuff even more ephemeral.
