From one of military buddies: "A couple points to consider about the Chang'i 4 landing. One, China's space program is controlled by the Party and by their military. There is no civilian aspect to it.
Second, the southern and norther poles of the moon are critical for a number of reasons. One is that there is water there in the form of ice in the permanent shadow of deep craters. This water will be important for building permanent bases on the moon.
Third, the poles are important military positions because there are places at the poles that can always look down on the earth with sensors and weapons. China's landing at the southern pole at the Aiken Basin is a key military strategic achievement.

#Kavanaugh masterfully turned himself into the victim of unscrupulous women.

He was aided by #GOP senators. The other accusers have been erased. It all rested on a 15yr old girl who as an adult wasn't self-aggrandizing and so didn't talk about herself at all. Unlike Kavanaugh.
I truly believe if Ford had talked about herself and her life in-depth the way #Kavanaugh did, she would have been humanized as a mother afraid for her kids, a prof beloved by her students, an expert in her field with 4 degrees. Not as elite as BK, but his equal in achievement.
Ford wasn't advised well. There were two hours for her, four for #Kavanaugh.

I'm a sociologist who studies adolescent sexual violence. On this thread, I will be live tweeting the #Kavanaugh hearing, chiming in with sociological insights and research findings.
Full disclosure--I will probably step away for parts of it. While many conservatives have cast feminists as people who rejoice at allegations of sexual assault against powerful men, this is a painful process for us. We know survivors. We are survivors. And I will need breaks.
It does not bode well that the beginning of this hearing is starting with equating #Kavanaugh and #Ford's experiences with harassment following Dr. Ford's allegations. They are absolutely not the same.

A musing on the #Kavanaugh accusation:

When I was in high school, a male classmate of mine was rammed into a flagpole by 4 other boys, breaking his collar bone. According to his brother, that incident deeply traumatized my classmate. He felt like he could no longer trust people.
There was a racial element involved as well -- my classmate was white, his 4 attackers were black.

My classmate ended up transferring to a private school for a while where, unfortunately, drugs were easy to come by, and he developed addiction issues. He's never fully recovered.
And what I'm wondering is, despite that this could be construed as a violent hate crime against my classmate -- one that caused him considerable psychological (and pharmaceutical) distress over the years -- what if one of his 4 attackers were in Judge Kavanaugh's place today?
