People think if they spend enough time with a loved one, the pain of losing them will lessen.

They say, “Spend time with loved ones. You never know when they’ll be gone.”

It’s a cliche they tell themselves out of fear. Fear of loss and pain.

But the pain won’t lessen.
You should spend time with loved ones because you enjoy it.

Not because your time on Earth is limited.

Don’t think spending that afternoon with your father will make the pain of his loss go away.

That’s a lie.

The pain stays. Because you loved him. It stays.
There will always be a regret in death because you’re not God.

You are narrow and finite and limited. And the choices available to you are few.

Death is death. And it’s a tragedy.

We need not invent lies about it.
