(1) Today marks the 80th anniversary of Kritallnacht, or “Night of Briken Glass” in which German Nazis began terrorizing a noble and righteous segment of their population, but for which the Nazis had invented a false narrative, directing the human sinful conditions at the Jews.
(2) It was the start of what would end in the slaughter of million of people in a genocide, and would result in millions more deaths through the war to end the tyranny.
(3) It is hard to study this period of atrocity. While greater tyranny might have occurred in history, it is hard to fathom, especially when it is the first such inhumane act by government that had the benefit of recording images and sounds for which we can reflect and remember.
(4) while we speak of this as a historical event, believing we are enlightened enough to ensure it never happens again, modern discourse is proving how wrong we can be, and how baby steps can easily lead to repeating history.
(5) While the Holocaust is orders of magnitude worse than the protests that continue to occur, the trajectory plotted by the exponentially aggressive rhetoric and the media-supported acceptance and encouragement of those pushing the limits does not look promising.
(6) Never Forget.
