In a video from street reporter Austen Fletcher, AKA Fleccas, protesters on campus attempting to "shut down" the speech are confronted about their opposition to Shapiro. They were quick to slander Shapiro, an Orthodox Jew, as a racist, transphobic Nazi...
One protester told Fleccas that Shapiro incited the fatal synagogue shooting in Pittsburgh, while others called the conservative a "transphobe" and a "racist."
Shapiro opponents eloquently chanted "Nazi scum, off our streets" and "f*** Shapiro" and held signs advocating for "free abortion on demand" and open borders. They also celebrated the deaths of John McCain and Ronald Reagan and advocated for violence.
"He shouldn't be allowed to have free speech if he's gonna preach the kind of things he preaches," said one female protester. When asked what specifically Shapiro has said that she objects to, she replied, "I don't know what he said specifically."
"I'm against Ben Shapiro because, uh, it would take a while to describe what's wrong with him," screamed another female protester. (Translation: I know nothing about Ben Shapiro other than the false platitudes spouted by my Marxist professor.)
He "doesn't believe that people should be allowed to live," said an older gentlemen, adding, "It's people like him and Trump who are inspiring people to commit murder in this country against people directly impacting my family, such as the Jewish people murdered in Pittsburgh."
An older male protester was asked by Shapiro supporters to engage in dialogue about their political differences. In reply, he screamed, "Do I look like Santa Claus? ... Then I don't give a f*** what you want."
This same protester later screamed, "If I want your f***ing opinion, I'll goddamn waterboard you!"
A different older male protester told a young Trump/Shapiro supporter that his "parents are brother and sister" and rebuffed an invitation to exchange ideas.
"Are you pro-police?" a younger male protester asked Fleccas. When he answered, "Yes," the protester called Fleccas a fascist and pushed his arm in a seeming attempt to steal the reporter's microphone.
"My dad is actually an immigrant from the Soviet Union," said one Shapiro supporter. "In this country, when you see all these people that are out here protesting for this communist idea again, it scares the crap out of my dad, because my dad left that.
"He came to this country because he stood for liberty, and he stood for freedom, and he came here for a new start. And now we have people like this, who are trying to bring what my dad escaped. Now we have a new fight," he warned.
