It's a one-box day at #SCOTUS. Opinion(s) coming in moments.
First — and only — #SCOTUS decision today is from Chief Justice Roberts in Weyerhaeuser v. US Fish and Wildlife Service, vacating and remanding the 5th Circuit. Decision was unanimous, though Kavanaugh did not particpate.
The case was argued on the first day of the term and is the second merits decision issued from the term. (The first was from RBG.) Here's today's decision: supremecourt.gov/opinions/18pdf… #SCOTUS
Today's Supreme Court decision sets forth a standard that limits areas that can be designated as "critical habitat" under the Endangered Species Act. #SCOTUS

Before the night ends, I wanted to thank three Broadway shows that closed today for the incredible stories — and backstories — they brought to the stage and the larger world: Harvey Fierstein’s Torch Song, Once on This Island, and Head Over Heels. Thank you, all. 😊
I am a ridiculously privileged, white cis gay man who gets to see a ton of theater — in part, though, because I’ve prioritized that. I don’t drink, I don’t do much in terms of expensive travel, but I love theater, so that’s where I spend a good deal of my free time and money.
So, when you see me going off to shows, please understand that this is something I care about. I think it’s important, and I love being able to support the incredible people out there doing such amazing work. 💜 Keep it up.

NEW: a unanimous CJ Roberts opinion, characteristically pithy and narrow, in Weyerhaeuser v. US Fish & Wildlife Service. The dusky gopher frog's future looks murky. supremecourt.gov/opinions/18pdf…
Main holding: an area can't be designated "critical habitat" if the creature doesn't inhabit it, even if it is an area where the species could live. But SCOTUS remands to the Fifth Circuit to sort out several questions.
The dusky gopher may have lost the case, but seems to have won the heart (and triggered the mirror neurons) of the Chief Justice.

In a nutshell: It limits the ability of #darkmoney groups to keep their donor lists secret this election. /1

Today's Supreme Court's #Janus ruling is a devastating blow to working people and to the labor movement. As someone who has previously organized a union in my workplace, I have some thoughts to share with non-labor people trying to make sense of what this decision means (1/)
Historically, unions have been the best vehicle for workers to win fair wages, pay equity, and all sorts of benefits through a process called collective bargaining where workers have the power to sit down as a group to negotiate a contract with their employer (2/)
Labor unions are accountable to their members because members pay dues – unlike nonprofits who often have complicated relationships with wealthy funders or foundations. Of course, there are some bad leaders who make bad money decisions but the membership can vote leaders out (3/)
