(1) Thread #1: President George HW Bush funeral week. #Remembering41

"A President's final conversation with the Nation." - White House Historical Association

Fair winds and following seas, Mr President.🇺🇸🙏
(2) The casket of 41 has left Houston and is arriving at Joint Base Andrews around now.
(3) Sully will be a central part of the commemorations this week. This could be the greatest promotion in history among the public, of service dogs for veterans and others in need. Sully's next assignment will be at Walter Reed Medical Center.
(4) President and Mrs Bush boarding Special Air Mission 41, along with the rest of the family and special friends.
(5) Sailors on board the aircraft carrier USS George H.W. Bush (CVN 77) preparing to lower the flag to half staff on December 1st.
(6) Children sign a condolence book at the George HW Bush Library in College Hill.
(7) Preparations outside the Capitol; The POW-MIA flag flies at the WWII Memorial; Portrait draped in black at the White House.
(8) Memories.
(9) Special Air Mission 41 arriving at Joint Base Andrews.
(10) Sully arriving in Washington DC, his new home. We might see him again this week, I don't know.
(11) Arrival at the Capitol.
(12) The Bush Family on one side, and on the other side, former Vice President Dan Quayle gives a salute, with Secretary Baker, VP Cheney, and Secretary Powell.
(13) Laura, George W. and Dorothy Bush, Jim Baker, and Dan Quayle.
(14) Old Glory flutters in the wind as the casket enters the Capitol.
(16) The foyer, then the rotunda.
(17) Senate Majority Leader, Speaker, and VP and spouses look on as the casket is lowered into place.
(18) Everyone looked sad at times during the ceremony, especially the Bush family and 43. I do feel for him.
(19) You could tell he was working overtime to hold back the tears.
(20) But like any memorial event you or I have attended, there are lighter moments among the sad ones.
(21) The Vice President greeted Jeb Bush after his address and most of the family heard what he said and smiled.
(22) Neil Bush and his family at the casket after the ceremony.
(23) All Supreme Court members except RBG where there (understandable, given her rib fractures), plus retired Justice Kennedy.
(24) VP and Mrs Pence, and members of the Cabinet pay their respects.
(25) The caption says the Sessions family, so I assume that is their son with them, but I don't know.
(26) Night falls on Washington, DC.
(27) The President and First Lady arrive to pay their respects.
(28) With Ford and Reagan watching over them, President 45 honors 41.
(29) Like everyone else I saw there, POTUS and FLOTUS showed genuine sadness. We all think of our own life too, and those we have lost. Something he has in common with 43 is total devotion and love for his Dad, who was of the same generation.
(30) I learned this week that soon after becoming President, each one is asked about the funeral arrangements they want. It's such a unique role and an exclusive club to belong to.
(31) Throughout the evening, large numbers of people lined up out the door and into the freezing night air. So much love for 41.
(32) This little fellow is the son of a Congressional staffer.
(33) Then there was a baby with a flag. So sweet,
(34) Members of the public paying their respects.
(35) Day Two. Rep. Patrick McHenry (R-NC) and his daughter Cecilia pay their respects.
(36) Kuwait's Emir Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and Ambassador Salem Abdullah Al-Jaber Al-Sabah (just behind him.)
