APROPOS OF ABSOLUTELY NOTHING AT ALL: Can I say a few words about a handful of pieces we've published recently in @TWSculture? I just want to highlight a few of my favorites from 2018. 1/
I'll start with this brilliant piece by David Skinner (@EditorSkinner). It's HUGE—and it's the best essay you will ever read about dictionaries. It's brand-new—it's on the cover (!) of the mag this week—but David started work on it back in March. 2/

Another recent one: @HannahGraceLong is among the most gifted young writers I've ever worked with—she's a natural. This piece on Christopher Tolkien and his father's legacy is filled with more gems than Smaug's cave. 3/

My goodness, Noah Millman's piece on Louis C.K. and Woody Allen is brilliant—combining biography, film criticism, and ethics. I think this took six months from conception to publication. 4/

This @SonnyBunch piece from earlier this year is not just classic Sonny, smart and funny, but just a straight-up classic, destined to be debated for years as people try to figure out this moment in TV. 5/

Another, if I may? This piece is ostensibly about Nietzsche, Heidegger, and far-right politics, but it's ultimately @ianmcorbin1's brief for empathy toward those we don't agree with. Ian is a treasure. 6/

Chris Morgan (CR_Morgan) schlepped to Salem, Massachusetts for this understatedly hilarious piece about the witches up there. (He ended up doing a couple other fine Halloweenish pieces for us, too, this year.) 7/

Just one more, if I may? I *love* this piece Martyn Wendell Jones (@martynwendell) did for us on Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker. Martyn is extraordinarily talented, and he tells a story younger readers won't know but should. 8/

I could go on and on about my writers—@bdmcclay, @Danny_Heitman, @AyJay, Joe Epstein, Andy Ferguson, @PalettaAnthony, @JosephBottum, @JohnWilson, @chrisirmscher, @timmarkatos, @jpodhoretz—and many, many more. What a pleasure and honor to work with you. 9/10
Thanks to all you writers for a great 2018.

Thanks to all our readers, for indulging us.

And thanks to my wonderful and generous @weeklystandard colleagues. See ya tomorrow. 10/10
