@JaneLytv Sergey Ovsyannikov was arrested by Malaysian police in late Oct. After being read his rights, he began telling US law enforcement agents about the ad fraud scheme he worked on, and the fake ad networks he set up to facilitate it. 
@JaneLytv I spoke to a friend of his in Kazakhstan who said he had no idea Sergey was arrested. “I know that he is a very clever guy who knows about internet advertising. I work in this field also, but I didn’t assume that he could do” ad fraud, he said.
@JaneLytv Mikhail Andreev is alleged to have helped run Methbot, another huge scheme. He told us, “I’m not guilty.” On Instagram he shared the indictment & highlighted that the FBI got access to his private communications. "Big Brother is in action: private search and texts,” he commented.
@JaneLytv The FBI got warrants for the email accounts of people they were investigating, and soon discovered that they used apps like Trello and Google spreadsheets to help manage their operations. Ad fraudsters, they’re just like us!
@JaneLytv Ever wondered how the FBI documents malware and how it works for a case? For this one, it visited more than a dozen homes/businesses in the NY area and informed ppl their PCs were infected. Agents then monitored the machines to see which servers they communicated with etc.
One final note on Methbot: Court docs revealed that Media Methane is the name of the fake ad network the fraudsters allegedly set up for their operation. So I checked the domain registration records, and bought myself a piece of ad fraud history...
