Reminder to The Sun: during the EUref campaign, Jo Cox was murdered not at random by some random individual but by a man who shouted “keep Britain independent” as he stabbed her. 
Very telling that The Sun suddenly wants to highlight the latent extremism of a fringe minority now that support for Brexit is unravelling but didn’t make a fuss about this tendency when they were getting their way. Excuse me if I see their concern now as cynical & opportunistic.
I guess my point is that The Sun shouldn’t so much be saying “Ooh we have to do Brexit otherwise there’ll be violence”: it should be saying (to a different set of ppl) “look guys, even if you don’t get your way, violence isn’t ok so cool it.”
In other words, The Sun isn’t really disturbed by the supposed prospect of political violence (notice how it doesn’t condemn those threatening such action). No, it is using it as a political tool to increase pressure on others to do what the violent fringe want.
The Sun is taking the same mealy-mouthed stance about violence from ppl on its side of the political spectrum as Sinn Fein used to at the height of Troubles or Herri Batasuna re Basque terrorism: “you must understand the grievances that make ppl feel they have no other option.”
I’m less sanguine about the prospect of political violence when Brexit is stopped than ppl who joke about gammons with Zimmer frames. It only needs a few hundred EDL types or a dozen radicalised ex-squaddies. But that concern is the worst possible reason to go ahead with Brexit.
I’m not predicting civil war but think there’ll be organised incidents of unrest & possibly attempted campaign of terrorist violence against prominent figures associated with stopping Brexit. But we have to rely on professionalism of police & security services to deal with this.
