I remember one time my dad told me a story about him.
My dad was 12 years younger than my uncle. Uncle was a brutal older brother.

Growing up he’d beat his ass whenever he fucked up on the field/court or said some shit out of line.

Anyways, my dad was in his 20s at this point and went to visit my uncle in Arizona.

1. Not everyone can be a private tutor for MIT and Harvard students trying to get into grad school.
2. If the case study himself says he's "playing life on easy mode," then he's probably only a good example for other people who are also on easy mode - no kids, privileged family with stable finances, able-bodied, college-educated, white.

I also think Chinese Singaporean and Chinese Malaysian food is the only immigrant Chinese food that has surpassed the original. Perak Cantonese food > HK Cantonese food; Johor / Singapore Teochew food > Chaozhou food

I turned fifty in October, and I'm just starting to realize all of the ways that being an abused child has molded and shaped me over the years. This thread will be a work in progress, that I can add to over an extended period.
I remember having happy childhood moments, mostly reading and playing with other kids; during the abuse itself, I experienced sheer terror. The rest of my childhood was a vague sense of dread-- waiting for more physical abuse.
When parents punish their children for misbehaving, the kids learn not to do whatever it was that got them into trouble. Since the physical abuse that I endured always seemed to erupt out of nowhere, it broke down "the rules." I grew indifferent to being punished.

Well-meaning white people, the inclusion of marginalized voices (LGBT, POC, etc) does NOT mean we are excluding you 1/?
When a person is used to a world where everything is made for them, being asked to make space for others is threatening

It can be scary because for the first time in your life, someone is asking you to stretch and consider *you are part of the problem* 2/?
And that’s rough, no one wants to believe they are a bad person. But there are systems in place that put marginalized people in danger and reward whiteness
