We're being presented with a false choice re Facebook/social media. It's reflexive control, and it's an old (but still relevant and effective) Soviet tactic.

The false choice is "paid service, or nothing at all."
Along with that is "we surveil you down to your bathroom habits, or you pay."  Or, "we build our own digital nation state custom made for the mob, or you pay."  Or "if you hold us accountable, our product will suck - we're just doing this all for you!"
What this really boils down to is them attempting to avoid regulation and/or being held accountable for their abhorrent behavior.

THREAD: About 900 refugees have been trapped for the last 5 years by the #Australia policy of offshore detention on #Nauru island. Their sole crime being seeking refuge by boat. As a result of these policy, many people attempt suicide or self-harm.
After providing mental health care in #Nauru for the last 11 months, @MSF was asked to cease its activities in 24h because its services were ‘no longer required’. This is totally disgraceful, the mental health situation on the island is devastating.
Our psychiatrists and psychologists have been shocked by the number of people thinking of or attempting suicide, with children as 9 years old saying it is better to die than live with no hope in #Nauru. Many children didn’t eat, drink and could not even walk to the toilet.

Alright, let's get this party started: First, numbers aren't 100% accurate but anywhere from 170-190 species of #sharks call Australian waters home. That's a lot, seeing as how there are roughly 500-ish species.
According to the Australian Government's Department of Environment and Energy, of those 170-190 species, around 70 are thought to be endemic. Endemic means "native to a specific region or environment and not occurring naturally anywhere else."
